ENSTIB, A MAJOR TOOL FOR THE FOREST-BASED SECTOR

The targets set for 2020 in terms of environment are based in large part on the significant role of forestry and timber. This sector serves as an exemplary model of sustainable development and also as a standard model of the circular economy. With almost 450,000 jobs in France, it creates ecological, economic and societal value at every link from the earlier stages in the forest to the subsequent industrial processes.
Being both renewable and recyclable, wood is now a strategic material, not to mention its contribution to the fight against climate change. Wood is a good insulator and its implementation requires little energy, which is why it is becoming firmly established as one of the basic materials for the design and construction of high energy performance buildings with a zero environmental impact. Architecture and contemporary design, the development of living spaces, keep finding new properties regarding this surprisingly modern material.

In the renewable energy sector, wood ranks well, far ahead of all other alternative energies. Today, wood helps cut the French oil expenditure by more than 6 billion euros.

The reduction of oil dependence along with the attenuation of the negative impacts induced by the development of sustainable alternatives – thanks to more intense use of wood biomass – open up new prospects for the chemical industry : bio-sourced materials.

Industry specific skills and versatility are two essential characteristics of all ENSTIB students and engineers.

Research applications are numerous and have high added value. They show the involvement of the University and the Enstib, via their research laboratories, in the valorization of research for the existing or growing industries.

The wood, textile, paper, biomedical, packaging, construction, automotive and aeronautics sectors are a few examples of the industrial sectors that implement applications from research on wood and fibers.

Strategic jobs for a virtuous circle business model

ENSTIB, NOT JUST AN ENGINEERING SCHOOL…

For thirty five years, ENSTIB has been offering a variety of courses leading to a qualification adhering to the European «LMD» system. In addition to that, it has developed unique facilities made up of research laboratories and technology transfer centres dedicated to wood and wood applications.
With new teaching practices and training courses adapted to the needs of professionals of the forestry-based sector, the whole ENSTIB team is devoted to developing students’ independence. The central preoccupation of ENSTIB research professors and guest speakers from the socio-economic world is to teach the students how to learn. Therefore, they provide them with the working methods and key knowledge that will be necessary
for their professional future.

The school instills meaningful learning dynamics and makes the students take on responsibility. To ENSTIB, employment is a pivotal element, which is why the School offers individual coaching in order to help the students develop their career plan.

Simulation exercises, projects, internships in France and abroad, plus an active network of former students and industrial partners are also part of the program.

ENSTIB consistently develops and pays particular attention to transparency. Its associate laboratories, along with its know-how, experience and talent make it attractive to the industrial world. The School aims at offering a unique program to French and foreign students, supporting an economic, societal and environmental ambition based on wood – an exceptional and strategic material.
