GENERAL PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES

Our technical degree ‘Wood and Construction’ aims to prepare students for work as overseers and executives in small and medium sized companies in the wood industry, more especially in wood construction, carpentry and joinery, as well as wood design offices and project management firms. The goal is to provide comprehensive technical knowledge of wood and its use in construction as well as training in management, economic and human sciences to promote career advancement.

Graduates will acquire the the skills and knowledge necessary to take on positions of responsibility in companies using added-value wood products and carry out tasks including business transfers or takeovers. Course available in full-time study or apprenticeship option.

COURSE ORGANIZATION

Full-time study
Full-time students follow the complete cursus. Possibility of exemption from certain modules only on presentation of validated experience.

The course includes 450 teaching hours, a supervised project and an internship.

Apprenticeship
Students are recruited for a period of one year, from 1st September of the current year to 31st August of the following year.

The course includes 450 teaching hours, a supervised project and periods in-company.

Students alternate from 4 to 6 weeks between the school and the company.

INTERNSHIPS AND PROJECTS

Full-time study
A 130-hour supervised project is an integral part of the course.

The 16 weeks of internship are split into 2 stages : 5 weeks at the beginning of the year to enable students to discover the company and define their areas of work, then a final stage lasting 11 weeks.

Apprenticeship
A supervised project is an integral part of the course.

The course is supplemented by 32 weeks in company.

FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

The technical degree ‘Wood and Furniture Applications’ is a vocational training course. Graduates’ access to further courses (Master’s degree) depends on the decision of faculty in charge of courses applied to.

Within the global framework of ENSTIB courses, the technical degree can enable graduates to enroll in our Master’s teaching diploma, option technological and professional training, on behalf of the Lorraine Graduate Teacher Training School.

According to their results, students may apply for ENSTIB’s engineering course, via a 1st-year entrance exam (in full-time or apprenticeship study).

APPRENTICESHIP

Schedule

WHAT IS THE APPRENTICE’S STATUS IN THE COMPANY ?

An apprentice is an employee of his or her company and therefore under its responsibility, via the apprenticeship supervisor. (S)he must carry out the tasks given. Throughout the 3 years of training, under the guidance of the supervisor, the apprentice will address specific tasks, build experience and gradually extend his/her responsibility within the company.

The in-company supervisor decides when and how to allocate these responsibilities. The tasks to be given to the apprentice and the relevant skills are listed in detail at the start of each semester. At the end of each semester, the supervisor returns a qualitative assessment of the apprentice’s capacities.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Manon Olivo

Promotion 2015

I graduated from ENSTIB in 2015 with a degree in Wood Construction, option Site Management. I didn’t even have to look for a job – the company I did my internship in, Vosges Charpente in Vincey, offered me an open-ended contract during my second internship and I’m still there !

I didn’t even have to look for a job – the company I did my internship in offered me an open-ended contract during my second internship and I’m still there !

I use what I learned during my degree all the time in my job, even if I have to continue learning every day, specially in structure design. I have fond memories of my time in school – on a personal level, the parties and the friendships between students and from a more educative point of view, the conferences and hearing outside speakers from the profession.
